How to prepare your iPhone for sale

Before posting your iPhone: back up your data, sign out of your Apple Account, disable Find My, and perform a factory reset. Remove your physical SIM card if fitted. You don't need the original box or accessories — just the phone.

After receipt and before any device is resold, we erase it with Phonecheck. Phonecheck's ADISA-certified erasure is built to NIST 800-88 and IEEE 2883, and each successful wipe creates a signed certificate of erasure and chain-of-custody record in Phonecheck.

  1. Back up to iCloud or your computer.
  2. Sign out of your Apple Account (Settings → your name → Sign Out) to turn off Find My and remove Activation Lock.
  3. Erase all content and settings (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset).
  4. Remove the SIM and package the phone securely.

If your iPhone won't turn on

You can still sell a faulty or dead iPhone, but you must remove it from Find My before shipping. On another Apple device signed in to the same Apple Account, open Find My, select Devices, choose the iPhone, then select Remove This Device. Or sign in at icloud.com/find, select the iPhone, and choose Remove This Device. Rebooted AU cannot remove Activation Lock on your behalf.
